DOE Office of Nuclear Energy Leader Named Vice Chairperson of International Nuclear Energy Organization

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy today announced that Senior Advisor Suzanne Jaworowski has been selected as a new Steering Group vice chairperson of the International Framework for Nuclear Energy Cooperation (IFNEC). Jaworowski received the honor at last month’s IFNEC meeting in Tokyo, Japan.

Jaworowski was one of three new vice chairpersons selected at the IFNEC conference November 12-15. The others are Collins Juma from Kenya and Vladimir Artisiuk from the Russian Federation. All three will serve as part of IFNEC’s Steering Group, which is the highest permanent body overseeing the work of IFNEC.

“The IFNEC forum provides a unique opportunity to bring together key stakeholders from 65 countries, all either actively involved in, considering employing civil nuclear or just dedicated to the safety and security of global nuclear energy. I am thrilled about the opportunity to collaborate with other countries on how we can all benefit from next generation nuclear to provide clean, emissions-free energy and other peaceful uses from this incredible technology,” said Jaworowski. “The United States will host the 2019 IFNEC Executive Committee meeting in Washington, D.C. in the fall. We look forward to hosting government decision makers from around the globe to demonstrate that the United States is fully committed to reviving civil nuclear energy.”

In her new role, Jaworowski will provide strategic counsel to IFNEC and focus on communications efforts while retaining her role at DOE.
