What to bring when you vote early

It's important to bring identification when voting.

Election workers will ask for a valid photo ID, such as an Indiana driver's license. The Indiana or federal ID must have your photo, your name that matches your voter registration and an expiration.

If you do not have a valid ID, you may submit a provisional ballot. Then you have until noon May 17 to provide the missing documents to the election board.

How to mail in a ballot

The first step to mail in a ballot is to submit an application. It must be filled out and received by the appropriate county office by 11:59 p.m. April 29.

Overseas and military voters must use a separate application to register to vote and request an absentee ballot. It must be done each calendar year.

What's on the ballot

The 2019 Indianapolis municipal primary election has implications for the mayor's race: Denise Paul Hatch and incumbent Joe Hogsett are Democratic candidates vying to face off against Republican Jim Merritt in November.
