CHICAGO — Incumbent Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza was re-elected Tuesday and defeated Darlene Senger.

Mendoza has served in various political roles over the last 20 years. She was first elected as a state representative of the 1st District in 2000, and was the youngest member of the Illinois General Assembly that year. She held that seat for 10 years before successfully running for city clerk of Chicago.

Mendoza was elected to the office of Illinois comptroller in the 2016 special election, following the death of Judy Baar Topinka.
