It’s been the questions on Coventry City fans’ lips almost all season - who will help Marc McNulty fire the Sky Blues towards promotion?

City are the lowest scorers in League Two’s top half having found the net 36 times in 32 matches, and McNulty has hit over a third of those with 13 to his name.

By contrast runaway leaders Luton have scored double that amount, 72 and Wycombe Wanderers have scored 65 while the sides currently in the play-off spots have each scored between nine and 19 more than Mark Robins’ men.

City’s defensive record stacks up as the best in the division but after Robins’ quest for extra firepower in January, supporters have been eager for their side to tick the goalscoring box.

And they think they have found the answer.

Jonson Clarke-Harris scored his first goal since returning to the club against Brighton on Saturday.

The striker smartly finished from inside the box to cap off an encouraging performance in which he also clipped the bar with a header.

City’s travelling army in the away end were impressed with what they saw.

Matty Roper: Jonson Clarke-Harris looked dangerous with his pace and power. Could be the man to help us get back on track in the league. Worth a start again next week?

Here's what Clarke-Harris had to say

Reflecting on his goal, Clarke-Harris said: “It was very pleasing.

“I think I should have had two at least, I think the first effort I had was unlucky and the second one hitting the outside of the post I should have scored but I’m pleased I got a goal.

“I’m pleased how the team performed in the second half because we gave it a right good go and we’ve come here to a Premier League team with no fear.

"I hit it on the outside of the foot on the half volley and I’ve finessed it.

“I’m made up with that goal to be honest because it’s been a long time for me and it’s a chance for me to get back out there and show everyone what I can do.

"I’ve had an injury, so it’s nice to come and play football and have someone who trusts you.

“You can take positives out of today’s game and that’s something for us to build on heading into the next away game against Mansfield, nobody is down I just don’t think performances have been the best, so we need to go next week.”

City were cast aside in the first half against Brighton but created problems for the Premier League side in the second period.

“I think that’s all it was just confidence and that’s what a goal can do and anything can happen, that’s why football is so good and why I love football because we’ve put Premier League players on the back foot,” added Clarke-Harris who came through City's youth ranks before leaving in 2012.

“It just goes to show you what can happen in football and if we get another goal and then they would have been more on the back foot.

“I’m really proud of the team, the club and the fans today who have travelled down in numbers.”
