Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Despite Manchester City marching off with a victory, Bournemouth's Charlie Daniels might have had the play of the game at Dean Court.

Manchester City left Bournemouth with a 2-1 victory in the Premier League bout.

But it was Daniels who put the home team up early. Just after the 12-minute mark, Bournemouth was denied on the attack. A shot ricocheted outside of the box and found a charging Daniels. Daniels let the ball bounce on the pitch twice, before ripping it with his left foot from the left flank. The laser sailed over the defense and went upper 90 at the far post, past a diving Ederson.

The 30-year-old midfielder's goal was his first in three games this season. He had four goals and three assists last year in 34 matches.

Manchester City tied the match when David Silva found Gabriel Jesus on a free kick in the 22nd minute. City got the go ahead goal in the 97th minute on a far post rip from Raheem Sterling to earn the victory.

"Winning in the last minute is always special," Sterling told the Manchester City website.

"It was a tough game, it is always complicated against Bournemouth. They play long balls, balls into the channels and play set-pieces but we got into the game."

"We tried, our finishing was not good but we are there.

"Very happy for the victory. Bournemouth were better in the first 10-20 minutes before Daniels goal, which was outstanding."

City controlled 70 percent of the possession in the victory.

"It's very gutting but we can take a lot of positives from our performances," Daniels told afcbTV.

"We were determined, we wanted to fight and we wanted to stay in the game. We did that."

"We can be positive in the next few days but now it's gutting and we feel like we've had it taken away from us as opposed to them having won it. Right now, it's very difficult. For us to go for an extra five minutes and then play seven is hard to take."

Bournemouth battles Arsenal at 10 a.m. Sept. 9 at Emirates Stadium. City faces Liverpool at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 9 at Etihad Stadium.
