Ohio: In a disturbing video footage which has emerged from the United States, a black man died after a police officer allegedly pinned him down and handcuffed him. The man repeatedly pleaded with the officers to release him as “he could not breathe”, but the police refused to pay any heed. The incident brought back memories of the killing of George Flyod in 2020. The incident happened at a bar in Ohio state.

Body cam footage shows assault on black man

The assault on the helpless black man was captured in the bodycam footage of the police officers. The Canton Police Department released the disturbing footage of police officials apprehending and pinning down Frank Tyson, 53, who was suspected of leaving the scene of a single-car accident on April 18.

The 36-minute long video shows a patrol officer near a car that had struck an electric poll. Bystanders tell the officer that the driver had fled to a nearby bar. Soon after getting the information, the officer accompanied by some more colleagues is seen entering a nearby bar. There they find Tyson standing near the counter.

An altercation happens between the police officers and Tyson after officials try to arrest the man. The man can be heard shouting, “They are trying to kill me” and “Call the sheriff”. Next officers pin down Tyson to the ground and handcuff him.

During this fiasco, one of the officers can be seen putting his knee on the man’s neck. As soon as this happens, the victim can be heard shouting, “I can’t breathe. I can’t… get off my neck.” One of the officers can be heard responding to his cries, “Calm down. You are fine”, before standing up.

Tyson can be seen lying on the floor, face down, as police officers are talking to the bar tenders. They then check on the black man who appears to be dead. One of the officers asks, “Is he breathing?” and “Does he have a pulse?”.

Soon after the handcuffs of the man are removed and officers begin CPR. Paramedics can then be seen entering the bar and carrying Tyson on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance. According to reports in the American media, the man died at a hospital. So far no official cause of death has been given, they said.

An investigation has been launched in the incident by the Ohio Police. The officers involved in this case were identified as Beau Schoenegge and Camden Burch, said a news outlet in the US.
