SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — There’s still time for Siouxlanders to apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

With two more weeks left to apply, the Community Action Agency of Siouxland is reminding people they are taking applications online, in-person, and over the phone.

LIHEAP helps qualifying low-income homeowners and renters pay a portion of their main heating costs. The agency said the program has already helped thousands of people in the area.

“One of the things that I think people don’t know about this program is how much of an impact it has locally,” executive director Jean Logan said. “So far we have been able to distribute $1.57 million in Woodbury County alone, so that would be the propane vendors and mainly here it’s Mid-American Energy, and we’ve been able to help over 3,300 families.”

The agency will be taking applications until April 30. You can apply by visiting the Community Action Agency of Siouxland website or by calling 712-274-1610 to schedule an appointment.

Applicants will need the following document when applying:

  • Past 30 days income or most recent Federal Income Tax Return
  • Current heat and electric vendor bills
  • Social Security cards of all household members
