Battleship North Carolina shares 1943 tax return images on Tax Day 2024
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Monday is Tax Day 2024 across the country, marking the day on which individual income tax returns are due to be submitted to the federal government.
Tax Day was first introduced in 1913, when the Sixteenth Amendment was ratified.
The Battleship North Carolina turned back the clock 81 years with images of a tax return for 1943.

Congress passed an additional five percent “Victory Tax” in late 1942 as a wartime measure. It was levied on all incomes exceeding $12 per week or $624 a year but provided for a post-war refund based on a formula.
