Howard University has renamed its law library for Vernon Jordan, the civil rights advocate, presidential adviser and Big Law trailblazer who graduated from the Washington, D.C., law school in 1960.
The university’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved the name change on March 8, eight days after Jordan’s death at age 85. The law library will now be called the Vernon E. Jordan, Jr., Esq. Law Library. The school is also raising money for a faculty chair in his name, said law dean Danielle Holley-Walker.
