This is the sickening sight of large rats scurrying all over black bin bags dumped in a Bordesley Green street.

Around 20 of the rodents scuttle around, tearing into the bags, unbothered by the presence of people watching them.

The scene was shot in Cherrywood Road, late one evening earlier this month.

Dumped black bin bags attract rats

A motorist was heading down the street when he caught sight of the vermin and stopped to film the sickening spectacle.

The rodents emerge from the grass and crawl all over the bin bags left the by the roadside.

He said: “I saw about 20 rats roaming and  coming in and out of dumped black bags.

“It made me feel sick and think about the disease they can cause.”

Rodents crawling all over waste

Birmingham City Council urged people to think before they fly-tip in their communities.

A spokesperson said: “Fly-tipping is a criminal offence. It is a crime that damages the environment that we all have to live and work in.

“Where we have credible evidence, we will investigate and prosecute, as is demonstrated by a range of cases that have received widespread publicity from the Birmingham Mail and Birmingham Live in the past.

“We receive hundreds of reports of fly-tipping across the city every week and do everything we can to remove as much waste as possible and investigate the circumstances behind rubbish that is dumped.

“The council can only prosecute when credible evidence, that meets the criminal burden of proof, is available.

Anyone with information on any cases of fly-tipping should contact the council at www.birmingham.gov.uk/flytipping.”
