Delaware Technical Community College students will not head back to its campuses this fall.

“In light of the health data we’ve been monitoring throughout the summer, we have decided to maintain the current distance learning format for the fall semester,” President Mark Brainard wrote in a letter to students. “We will, however, continue to review and identify a limited number of skills laboratory courses that will take place in person, on campus. In addition, clinicals for nursing and allied health courses may continue off campus at the discretion of the clinical site. We know that this is disappointing for all of us who want to be back on campus, but our first responsibility is to protect the health and safety of our students, employees, and community at large.”

Tutoring, math, computer and writing centers will be open on each campus to offer supplemental instruction.

Like other colleges, Delaware Tech had been holding more online classes before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Everyone who enters Del Tech facilities will be screened, must wear a mask, and will practice social distancing.

The GE Aerospace in plant in Newark announced plans to lay off nearly all of its nearly 200-employee  workforce, with former Johnson Controls battery plant also shutting down and putting anothr 200 out of work.

Meanwhile, the University of Delaware and Delaware State University plan to hold fall classes on campus and bring back students to residence halls. Delware Tech has no student housing.
