Essentia Health has appointed Dr. Bill Heegaard as their new president for Essentia Health's West Market, which encompasses eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota.
Heegaard has been practicing adult and pediatric emergency medicine at Hennepin Health in Minneapolis since 1994, according to a news release. He has served as a chief medical officer and chief clinical officer there and is a professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
Heegaard will join the Essentia team April 6.
Multiple jobs open for the 2020 census
The U.S. Census Bureau is still recruiting people to fill temporary jobs across the United States and Puerto Rico for their 2020 Census.

To be eligible for any 2020 Census jobs, applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a valid Social Security number.
- Be a U.S. citizen (some exceptions).
- Complete an application and answer assessment questions.
- Be able to speak, read and write in English.
- Be registered with the Selective Service System or have a qualifying exemption (if a male born after Dec. 31, 1959).
- Undergo fingerprinting and pass a criminal background check and review of criminal records.
- Commit to completing training.
- Be available to work flexible hours.

Gov. Walz releases Local Jobs and Projects Plan and its proposed investments
On Thursday, Jan. 9, Gov. Tim Walz announced the focus of his 2020 capital investment proposal: The Local Jobs and Projects Plan. His plan has four areas of focus:
- Creating safe and affordable housing options across the state
- Boost public safety
- Increase community access to safe drinking water
- Investing in higher education institutes.
So far, he has proposed an investment of $276 million for safe and affordable housing across the state, $300 million for replacing aging infrastructure and upgrading water treatment facilities and $448 million in General Obligation Bonds for public college and university campuses across the state.
