ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said on Tuesday that Pakistan will continue to play its role for regional peace without compromising national security.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief presided over the 228th Corps Commanders Conference at the General Headquarters.
In Tuesday's session, the forum reviewed the strategic, regional and national security in relation to the borders, Line of Control (LoC) and Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK).
The army chief said Pakistan is the lead participant in the region with significant contributions towards peace and stability. “We shall continue to play our responsible and positive role towards this end without compromising national security and defence of the motherland at whatever cost,” said the COAS.
The meeting also took into account the "provocative statements" of the Indian military leadership, said the ISPR, calling it “irresponsible rhetoric with implications on regional peace and stability”.
The ISPR said that regional peace in relation to the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran was also reviewed during the meeting. “The forum reviewed evolving security situation in the Middle East with reference to the US-Iran standoff and its implications on regional peace and stability,” stated the press release.
