NH Primary Source: Retired U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Bolduc now ‘seriously considering’ US Senate run
MOVING A STEP CLOSER. The pace of calls of encouragement to retired U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Donald Bolduc picked up substantially after Gov. Chris Sununu announced Tuesday night that he’ll run for a third term as governor and not for the U.S. Senate next year.
Bolduc told New Hampshire Primary Source on Wednesday that he’s now “seriously considering” running as a Republican for the seat now held by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. That’s a clear step forward since we first reported three weeks ago that he said only that he was receiving calls of encouragement and was flattered by them.
Bolduc has never run for office, but he is viewed in GOP circles as potentially a very viable candidate to challenge Shaheen.
“I have had several phone calls and texts and emails. People are reaching out now that the governor has decided to run for a third term. That is great for New Hampshire and our veterans, and I’m a big supporter. He has spent time listening to me about my concerns regarding veterans issues and I appreciate that,” Bolduc said.
“Yes, I’m on the receiving end of the encouragement and I’m humbled by it and giving it serious consideration at this point,” Bolduc added. “It’s something that I’m not asking to do, but it’s something that others are asking me to do.
“Public service is in my blood and in my DNA, and if folks think that I may be able to make a difference and make the lives of people better, I’m willing to give it serious consideration.”
Bolduc, by the way, will be the host and featured speaker Saturday at the inaugural Cigars for Veterans event at Faro Italian Grille in Weirs Beach.
It is not a political event, and all proceeds will be donated to Bolduc’s designated charity, Swim with a Mission.

Meanwhile, 2018 1st District U.S. House candidate Eddie Edwards told New Hampshire Primary Source that he is continuing to discuss a possible run next year for a “federal office” with friends and supporters.
