Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris promised to ban the import of AR-15 style rifles if she's elected president.During a campaign stop at Girls Inc. in Nashua, Harris pledged to take action on gun violence as president by using executive orders to mandate universal background checks and revoke the licenses of gun manufacturers who break the law."I'm also prepared -- and I'm announcing it for the first time today with you -- to take executive action to ban the import of assault weapons into our country," she said.Harris said about 4 million of the AR-15 style rifles in America were imported. News 9 asked Harris if banning such imports might prompt a domestic gun manufacturing boom."I would hope not, and I think that -- speaking on behalf of the American public, I will tell you that everywhere I go, speaking with gun owners, speaking with people that don't own guns -- there's a common understanding that assault weapons are weapons of war," she said.On the national level, Harris is facing some questions about how her campaign will break from the pack. She has been able to draw crowds in New Hampshire, and supporters said she has room to grow in the Granite State."I'm very excited, and for me, I'm a very tempered person and kind of skeptical going into things, and she's completely won me over," said Celine Ibrahim, of Brookline.Harris said she knows that one way to rise to the top is to focus on the first-in-the-nation primary."I really want to be here a lot more, and I'm going to figure out a way to do that," she said.Harris said she would also be open to exploring the idea of adding justices to the Supreme Court and implementing term limits on that branch of government.She also turned around talk of joining former Vice President Joe Biden as a potential running mate, saying he would make a great running mate for her.
