Early voting continues for Dec. 4 HD28 Special Republican Primary

CLARKESVILLE — Voters in Georgia House District 28 who were eligible to vote in the May 22 General Primary have another opportunity to decide that seat.

A legal challenge of the May 22 General Primary by incumbent Dan Gasaway, whose margin of loss to challenger Chris Erwin was narrow, resulted in that election being set aside due to irregularities and led to the new election. But there are several restrictions that apply to those who can vote.

Those restrictions include that the voter must live within Georgia House District 28 and did not vote or voted Republican or Nonpartisan in the May 22 General Primary.

Parts of Banks, Habersham and Stephens counties comprise Georgia House District 28.

As of Wednesday, Nov. 21, Habersham County had recorded 33 Saturday voters (cast Nov. 17 at Habersham North and Habersham South precincts); 72 early voters in office (Nov. 13-21); 93 absentee ballots mailed, with 50 absentee ballots received in the Special Republican Primary, according to Election Superintendent Laurel Ellison.

Election Day voting in the House District 28 Special Republican Primary on Dec. 4 will be held at the following three locations in Habersham County:

  • Habersham North Precinct, Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center, 120 Paul Franklin Road, Clarkesville;
  • Habersham South Precinct, First Baptist Church of Cornelia, 325 Oak St., Cornelia; and
  • Town of Mt. Airy (town voters only), 1231 Dicks Hill Parkway, Mt. Airy.

There are 5,205 active registered Habersham County voters in House District 28 as of the cutoff registration date of April 24, 2018.

Additionally, early voting for two statewide races will be held Nov. 26-30.
