WASHINGTON D.C. (WMAL)- Following the reports of an active shooter situation at Walter Reed Medical Center, multiple government agencies reported that there was no active shooter but had conflicting reports on what exactly occurred at the medical center.
In a tweet, the U.S. Navy stated that it was an “ad hoc drill by tenant command” at Walter Reed Medical Center. Montgomery County Police Department spokesperson Lucille Bower told WMAL that the department was not made aware about the drill in advance and that the 911 call came in as a legitimate call for assistance.
“It was responded to and investigated thoroughly as the potential of a real incident involving an active shooter,” Bower said. However, police concluded in their investigations that there was no active shooter.

Maryland Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger, who tweeted from within the medical center during the situation, said that “at no point was there any indication that this was a drill.”
In another tweet, Naval Support Activity Bethesda stated that this was a “false alarm and not part of a scheduled drill as has been reported.”
Security responded and cleared the building, finding no indication of an active shooter.
After investigating the call and the origin, NSA Bethesda has determined that this was a false alarm and not part of a scheduled drill as has been reported.

Police responded to reports of a possible active shooter situation at Walter Reed Medical Center, according to Montgomery County Police public information officer Lucille Bower.
The call came approximately at 2:23 p.m. and Montgomery County police responded to the center to investigate the situation. From inside the medical center, Maryland Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger tweeted about the situation.
I am currently at Walter Reed Medical in Bethesda where we’ve been told there is an active shooter. I am currently safe in a conference room w/ approx 40 others.

Rep. Ruppersberger remains sheltered in a back room at Walter Reed. Described mood as calm. Has not been given any additional details but does not believe this to be a drill.
