A spokesperson with the Federal Aviation Administration confirms: “The Astra Space, Inc. launch from the Pacific Spaceport Complex Alaska at Kodiak Island on Friday, July 20 experienced a mishap.”

It was an FAA-licensed launch, and the agency is reviewing the event.

The launch took place on Friday afternoon, the final day of the company’s licenced launch window.

Craig Campbell, CEO of the Alaska Aerospace Corporation, told the Kodiak Daily Mirror newspaper that the launch was 95 percent successful and that, “the company got a whole bunch of data and a lot of good information from this launch, but it didn’t complete its full cycle.”

Campbell added that, despite the anomaly, no significant damage was done to the launch at the Kodiak Spaceport Complex.
