Donald Trump Jr and wife Vanessa share a smile after first divorce hearing - despite lawyers revealing the two have NOT reached a financial settlement in their split

  • Donald Trump Jr and his estranged wife Vanessa have yet to come to terms on a financial settlement in their divorce, but were all smiles on Thursday
  • The couple filed a request for judicial  intervention in May, and appeared in court for the first time on Thursday
  • The pair were married in 2005 and have five children: Kai, Donald III, Spence, Tristan and Chloe
  • The divorce had initially been 'uncontested,' but it now 'contested,' suggesting that there may be a disagreement between the two about alimony or custody
  • Vanessa, 40, filed shortly after her family came into a windfall of cash it was reported back in May thanks to her father's investment in Rao's  sauces
  • Don Jr, 40, is now dating former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle, 49, with the two making their first public appearance in Washington DC this week

Donald Trump Jr was back in New York City on Thursday, where he and estranged wife Vanessa Haydon took a trip downtown to finalize their divorce.

The couple's first hearing lasted only a few minutes before Justice Michael Katz in New York Supreme Court, with both raising their right hands and stating their names to kick things off.

Justice Katz then commended both parties on resolving their issues to ‘prioritize their children and shield them from what could have been an invasive litigation process’.

He did add however that 'those good intentions need to be put in writing.'

The Trumps’ attorneys then noted that certain financial decisions ‘have not yet been resolved’ but that they would be resolved in the next few weeks.

That financial issue explains why the formerly 'uncontested' divorce is now 'contested.'

Justice Katz scheduled a compliance conference for November at the end of the hearing, and Don Jr and Vanessa smiled at one another at the end of the proceedings.

The rest of the courtroom was then held back as they exited amid NYPD officers and Secret Service. Trump Jr put a guiding hand on Vanessa’s back as she made her way out of the courtroom doors.

The first son, 40, and his wife decided to call it quits after 13 years back in May, but have remained on good terms throughout their separation.

This was clear on Thursday as the two arrived to court together, followed by their lawyers and Don Jr's security detail.

This comes after Don Jr and new girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle, 49, made their first public appearance in Washington DC this week.

Don Jr and Guilfoyle attended the Turning Point High School Leadership Summit this week, were they put on a very public display of their love.

The two took to the stage at one point on Tuesday, holding hands as they addressed the crowd.

That appearance comes days after Guilfoyle parted ways with Fox News in a move that both parties have suggested was their decision.

The network shared news of her departure on Friday with a statement that read: 'FOX News has parted ways with Kimberly Guilfoyle.'

That was then confirmed an hour later, when The Five kicked off with Katie Pavlich filling in for Guilfoyle, who was not allowed to appear on one last program to say goodbye.

A source had previously told DailyMail.coim that Guilfoyle, 49, would not be appearing on the show, and in her place was Pavlich in a red dress and nude heels that were remarkably similar if not identical to ones previously word by her predecessor.

Guilfoyle claims that it was her own decision however, and earlier this week wrote: 'Today I have a bitter-sweet announcement. I’ve decided to leave Fox News Channel and dedicate myself full time to joining America First as Vice Chairwoman, campaigning across the country and firmly standing with President Trump.

'I will miss my Fox family. I thank Fox for the opportunities it has provided me. I thank all the talented producers, staff, and above all I thank the best fans out there.'

Vanessa leaves court

Court records that were previously obtained by DailyMail.com reveal that Don Jr responded to his wife's filing in May, and on May 17 their case was assigned to Judge Michael Katz.

Don Jr. continues to be represented by Blank Rome, while Vanessa has now hired the firm of Hennessey & Bienstock, whose past clients include the Robert F. Kennedy Jr's late ex-wife Mary Richardson.

Vanessa had initially been working with Westchester lawyer David Feureisen when she first filed papers back in March.

The New York Post reported in early May that she chose to file at that time due to a windfall of cash that had come her mother's way thanks to an investment her late father made in Rao’s Speciality Foods.

Charles Haydon, a celebrity attorney who worked with stars including Marilyn Monroe, had a 30 percent stake in the company which sold products produced by the famed Harlem Italian restaurant.

That stake translated into big bucks last year, when the company sold for a reported $145 million.

Vanessa got new legal representation just a few weeks after that news broke.

It was also revealed at the time that her mother Bonnie Haydon had paid $6.4 million in cash to buy the Fifth Avenue apartment of Roger Ailes' widow Elizabeth.

In addition to Richardson, Hennessey & Bienstock has also represented MTV founder Tom Freston and Fox Sports executives Cliff Pozner in their divorces.

Don Jr's firm, Blank Rome, works with a number of high-profile financial institutions and has been representing Frank Darbont in his ongoing battle with AMC over The Walking Dead.

Judge Katz is also high profile, having presided over the divorces of most bold-faced Manhatanites looking to part ways with their spouse, including Harvey Weinsetin and first wife Eve and Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin.

Don Jr and Vanessa have said their split was amiable and given no indication to believe otherwise, having shown their support for one another on social media just last week.

The response to Vanessa's March filing seems to have come just after Mother's Day from Don Jr, who praised his estranged wife on the holiday with an Instagam post.

'Happy Mother’s Day to the best mom in the world. Vanessa enjoy your day, you’ve certainly earned it dealing with those 5 munchkins and me. #mothersday#mom #momlife,' wrote Don Jr.

He then went off the grid, spending some time in Utah camping and hunting with pals.

Since that time it has been revealed that he has found love again, with DailyMail.com revealing last week that the First Son and Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle are dating.

Vanessa has even given her blessing to the union on Twitter.

Her tweet came in response to Don Jr. lashing out at those who called for Guilfoyle to be fired, claiming that it was unethical for a member of the media to be dating the son of the president.

Don Jr. responded to those attacks by saying it was a clear example of 'liberal privilege at its finest.'

Vanessa then showed her support by retweeting Don Jr. and writing: 'The lengths people will go to attack a woman simply because she’s dating Don. We’ve been separated for over 9 months and respect each other’s decisions & privacy. We’ll focus on raising our great kids. Would be nice if the press did the same rather than obsess over our pvt lives!'
