Congressional Candidate Wants to Sit on Ag Committee
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/26/2018

It's been several years since Wisconsin has had representation on the House Agriculture Committee in Washington, D.C. But one candidate for Congress says he wants the chance to do just that.

Republican Steve Toft from Osseo, who's challenging long-time Rep. Ron Kind of La Crosse, said he plans to make agriculture a top priority if he's elected to the state's third congressional district this fall.

Toft served in the Army for over 30 years before retiring from the service and moving back to his family's farm. He claims he was promised a spot on the committee by Speaker Paul Ryan.

Wisconsin has not had representation on the ag panel since former Congressman Reid Ribble stepped off the committee in 2015. Prior to that, Ribble's predecessor, Democrat Steve Kagen, served on the agriculture committee from 2007 until he lost his seat to Ribble in 2010.
