The White House took aim at Oregon's U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer Tuesday as the Portland Democrat announced he is seeking to introduce legislation to abolish ICE.

The White House's official twitter handle tweeted directly at Blumenauer saying, "Why are you supporting something that would protect drug smugglers? You must not know what CBP and ICE really do.”

The tweet then linked to a story about a multimillion-dollar drug bust.

Blumenauer was one of the first members of Congress to call for ICE to be abolished. He and U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin are sponsoring the legislation. The White House also tweeted a similar message to Pocan Tuesday as well.

Blumenauer said the legislation would set up a commission to come up with recommendations for Congress to create a system that protects Americans and respects immigrants.

So far, Blumenauer hasn't responded to the White House's tweet. But Pocan did, tweeting, "Thanks for reaching out @WhiteHouse, but don't @ me until you've reunited all 2,300 kids with their families."

Until President Donald Trump rescinded it with an executive order, a Trump administration policy separated children from their parents who had come into the United States illegally. A judge recently set a deadline for the administration to reunite the families.

The policy was what prompted Blumenauer and others to call for ICE to be abolished.
