Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi on Monday endorsed Fred Costello in his race for Congress.

She called Costello, an Ormond Beach Republican, an "outstanding" servant leader. A dentist, Costello is a former mayor of Ormond Beach and state representative.

“Rep. Costello served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force and has been a longtime supporter of veterans and law enforcement," Bondi said. "Dr. Costello led the effort in the Florida House to pass legislation to adopt the Prescription Drug Management Program to give my office one of the tools we needed to put the pill mills out of business and fight opioid abuse. His effort helped us save lives."

Costello is running against Michael Waltz and John Ward in the Aug. 28 Republican primary. Democrats John Upchurch, Stephen Sevigny and Nancy Soderberg are also running for the Congressional District 6 seat representing Volusia and Flagler counties and parts of St. Johns and Lake.

Bondi is in the last year of her second term in office. She is also a Republican.
