Gov. Henry McMaster and Upstate businessman John Warren will meet in a one-on-one debate before they face in a runoff to decide the Republican nomination for South Carolina governor.

McMaster took home the bulk of the votes in Tuesday's primary, with more than 155,200 (42%). Warren finished second with more than 102,100 votes (27%). A full 50 percent of the votes is needed for a win in primary elections.

Crucial in the outcome will be the direction taken by the more than 103,000 voters who supported Catherine Templeton (78,500+, 21%) and current Lt. Governor Kevin Bryant (24,700+, 6%). Bryant and Templeton were openly critical of McMaster during their campaigns.

The debate, which will be co-hosted by The Post & Courier, S.C. ETV, and the South Carolina Republican Party, will take place on Wednesday, June 20.

The runoff election between McMaster and Warren will be June 26. The winner will move on to face Democrat Rep. James Smith in the November election. Smith won his party's nomination in a landslide Tuesday.
