Forums to discuss plans to re-balance Oldham County district's elementary schools
Oldham County School District leaders are working with parents to find solutions for school overcrowding.The district is holding public forums. School leaders presented several different re-balance ideas to parents Monday night, allowing them to weigh in on those proposals.Right now, the district has several elementary schools over 100 percent capacity, while other schools are below 80 percent.Per the Kentucky Department of Education, the district can't build new schools unless all elementary schools are at least 85 percent capacity.The idea of students having to change school is concerning for many parents.District officials hope to have the redistricting plans finalized by October.No students would have to change schools until fall 2019.There's another forum Tuesday at South Oldham Middle School and another will be held Thursday at Oldham County High School. Both start at 6 p.m.
