Cornyn: Optimistic for Texas Republicans Heading Toward November

(WBAP/KLIF) – Senator John Cornyn is optimistic Texas will remain solidly republican now that the November races are set.

The Senate Majority Whip says he does not think the national democratic message sits well with average Texas voters.

“As long as democrats are running as a reflection of the national democratic party in Texas, I think republicans are in pretty safe hands because Texas is a conservative state,” Cornyn said this week.

Cornyn thinks both Beto O’Rourke for U.S. Senator and Lupe Valdez for Texas Governor are out of step with the average Texas voter.

“While I like Beto O’Rourke, I think he is an unabashed liberal on policy after policy and I think out of step with the mainstream Texas voter,” Cornyn said.

O’Rourke will face Senator Ted Cruz this November and former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez will challenge Governor Greg Abbott.
