During last night’s Kent County Lincoln Day Dinner, Delaware State Auditor Tom Wagner announced that he will not seek re-election in November.   He told supporters that his decision to not seek another term is based on health issues.

Read his statement –

This evening I addressed the Kent County Lincoln Day Dinner and announced that I will not seek re-election in 2018. It was a bittersweet moment for me surrounded by friends and family in the county where my political career began more then 30 years ago when I ran for Mayor of Camden.

My decision not to run is based on health concerns that will require me to eventually have a kidney transplant. It would not be fair to the citizens of Delaware or the Republican Party to run for re-election knowing that I cannot dedicate 110% of my time and energy to this critical role in state government.

There is no higher calling than public service and, for three decades, I have had the humbling privilege of serving the citizens of Delaware as their State Auditor. I would like to thank the voters of Delaware for their trust during my time in office.

I would like to give special thanks to the career staff members in the Auditors Office who I have worked with over the years. Being an auditor can be a thankless job, and all of you have gone above and beyond to protect Delaware’s taxpayers from fraud, waste, and abuse. It has been an honor to work with you.
