Kansas Governor Sam Brownback touted a $362-million plan Tuesday to replace 155-year-old Lansing Correctional Facility.“It predates Abraham Lincoln,” Brownback said. “This is a historic site, literally. Lincoln didn’t sleep here, but he could have. I’m confident the legislators once they get the full information they will be supportive.“We desperately need a new facility here. We need a modernized facility. We need one that is safe for people to work in. We need one that’s safe for the inmates to be in. The best practices we put in 155 years ago aren’t the best practices today. This needs to happen.” Brownback was also asked Tuesday about his nomination become ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom in president Donald Trump’s administration. “I put in the paperwork,” Brownback said. “It has to go back through the Foreign Relations Committee before it gets back to the floor. It appears to be progressing, but I’m not going to make any comments on timing.”
