Lee Zeldin says Obama administration was ‘furious’ with Flynn over ‘anti-Israel’ UN effort in 2016

Rep. Lee Zeldin hearkened back to 2016 to remind the nation that the Obama administration was “furious” with retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn for calling on world leaders to block an “anti-Israel” effort.

The New York Republican tweeted Thursday morning about Flynn, who served as Trump’s national security adviser in early 2017, and his efforts to block the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, which focused on Israeli settlements in “Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.”

“Keep in mind Obama admin was furious Gen Michael Flynn was making calls to world leaders helping to block UN Sec Council Res 2334 in Dec 16, which was an anti-Israel effort that should’ve been vetoed by the US, not fast tracked. Gen Flynn was doing exactly what needed to be done,” Zeldin tweeted.

Zeldin said at the time of the resolution, “I rise today in support of H. Res 11 to oppose United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334; an anti-Israel, anti-Jewish attempt on behalf of Pro-Palestinian nations to delegitimize Israel and ethnically cleanse East Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria of the Jewish people. Israel is one of America’s greatest allies and a beacon of freedom and liberty in a very dark region of the world.”

“President Obama lit a menorah this year at the White House and he reflected on Hanukkah as a celebration of the Maccabees’ fight for freedom,” he added. “The Maccabees lived, prayed and fought on the land that this Security Council resolution calls illegally occupied territory and yet this resolution was passed the day before the start of Hanukkah. The Obama administration, by allowing this resolution to pass, is attempting a dangerous shift in American foreign policy that cannot be allowed to stand.”

Flynn has been caught up in a yearslong saga that Trump has dubbed “Obamagate,” accusing former President Barack Obama’s administration of seeking to undermine his presidency.

In 2017, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his conversations with a Russian envoy but later withdrew his plea and told a court in January that he was “innocent of this crime.” The Justice Department filed to dismiss criminal charges against Flynn last week, but the judge overseeing the case appointed former federal judge John Gleeson Wednesday to challenge the DOJ’s motion to dismiss the case and to consider whether Flynn should be held in contempt.

A memo declassified by acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell Wednesday revealed Joe Biden and other top Obama officials received information in response to unmasking requests targeting Flynn. It is unknown, however, if Biden made one of the requests or even looked at the information.

“This was all Obama. This was all Biden,” Trump said in response to the news to Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo in an interview aired Thursday. “These people were corrupt. The whole thing was corrupt. And we caught them. We caught them.”

Biden’s election campaign, however, downplayed the former vice president’s name being on the list.

“These documents have absolutely nothing to do with any FBI investigation and they confirm that all normal procedures were followed — any suggestion otherwise is a flat out lie,” Biden spokesman Andrew Bates said. “What’s more, it’s telling that these documents were selectively leaked by Republicans abusing their congressional powers to act as arms of the Trump campaign after having them provided by a partisan official installed for this very purpose.”
