U.S. Rep. John Lewis speaks Thursday, June 23, after he and other Democrats ended their sit-in on the House floor. Lewis launched the protest to try to force a vote on gun control in the wake of the Orlando nightclub shooting -- the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history -- but the House GOP swiftly adjourned for a recess. Lewis said the fight was not over. "When we come back here on July the 5th, we're going to continue to push, to pull, to stand up and, if necessary, to sit down," he said. "So don't give up, don't give in. Keep the faith, and keep your eyes on the prize."

Immigrants would have also been allowed to apply for programs that could qualify them for work authorization and associated benefits. But the Supreme Court's ruling means that the programs will remain blocked and the issue will return to the lower court.
