Reshma Saujani, former Deputy Public Advocate and founder of the national non-profit Girls Who Code, released the following statement today on the second failure to indict Officer Richard Haste, who shot and killed Ramarley Graham:

“Today a miscarriage of justice in our legal system again failed the Graham family, and failed our black and brown boys across this city. I am humbled by the family’s strength but devastated by their loss.

New York City cannot be a place where boys like Ramarley are not only stopped and frisked, but shot and killed.  We need to create better opportunities for our boys to get jobs, to start businesses, and to realize their potential. But every time we fail to deliver justice, we turn our backs on them.

It is incumbent upon the District Attorney to send this case to federal court, so that the officer whose actions took the life of a bright young boy, and led to so much loss and grief in our community, can be held accountable.”
