Governor Greg Abbott tells UT Austin protesters their demands are not going to be met

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Protestors gathered again at the University of Texas Austin campus yesterday afternoon as the demonstration against the Israel-Hamas war continue.

The Palestine Solidarity Committee, a student-run group organized the protest.

They are demanding that the school divest from weapons manufacturing companies selling arms to the Israel Defense Forces and that University of Texas President Jay Hartzell resign.

Governor Greg Abbott responded to the protesters on his X account, telling the protesters that their demands are not going to be met.

“This will never happen! The only thing that will happen is that the university and the state will use all law-enforcement tools to quickly terminate illegal protests taking place on campus that clearly violate the laws of the state of Texas and policies of the university”.

The protesters have been on campus for more than a week. Police arrested nearly 80 of them last week, with a majority of them being charged with criminal trespass and later released.

UT Austin campus police say that they plan to file “at least one” felony charge for gun possession after police confiscated several weapons from the protesters.

The planned charge is a third-degree felony for possession in places barred under state law.
