Married At First Sight Australia bride Lauren was heartbroken when she saw ex-husband Jono walk hand in hand with new girlfriend and former co-star Ellie at the reunion - but fans claim this was a "lucky escape" for her.

The blonde beauty admitted she felt "hurt" and "blindsided" by the couple, and while getting tearful at the dinner party, Lauren Dunn has had a wave of support online from MAFS fans watching the explosive episode.

Viewers were gobsmacked by the cruel comments made by Jono McCullough and Ellie Dix at the table, as many branded them as "vile", and people have said it's a "lucky escape" for Lauren after Jono and Ellie showed their true colours.

Fans took to X to share their thoughts, as one person wrote: "I think Lauren has actually been saved from being with vile Jono. I just can't believe he wrote stay each week yet says she's a horrible person now?? Why did you stay and sleep with her?" A second brutally wrote: "I think Lauren got a lucky break. Jono is a complete sociopath," and a third said: "They come across heartless and pretty awful people considering how they both acted. Perfect match for each other! Lauren was too good for Jono!"

While Lauren and Jono sat on the couch infront of the experts for one last time, they grilled the groom over his new relationship with Ellie. He admitted he reached out to Ellie while he was still on the show, as he didn't think it was "bad" and "wanted to make sure she was ok."

Ellie and Jono also took cruel swipes at Lauren throughout the dinner party, with Jono even accusing her of "fake crying". Which Lauren then snapped and told him to not tell her how she "really feels". Despite the pair showing their true colours, it's been reported Ellie has been "traumatised" by the reaction to her and Jono's relationship.

It comes after her best friend Tahli Passeri claimed that Ellie, 32, and Jono, 39, were shown in a negative light, and as a result, they have suffered cruel trolling since the airing of the show's finale.

Tahli spoke to Yahoo Lifestyle and shared her concern over the messages her friend had received since the show and has "never seen her so upset."

She said: "It is disturbing, the hate and revolting comments Ellie is receiving. She is extraordinarily traumatised and as someone who has known her for 18 years, I have never seen her so upset. She is one of the kindest, most genuine, loyal, compassionate and loving people I know. To see her receive so much hate and derogatory comments based on a substantially edited television show is saddening," and claimed some of Ellie's most "controversial" scenes in the reunion special were "highly edited".
