Traffic changes in place as Supriya Sule, Sunetra Pawar to file nominations, hold rallies

Officials said Sule and Sunetra Pawar are both expected to file their nominations at the Council Hall around the same time with both sides expecting participation of several heavyweight political leaders.

Ajit Pawar-led NCP’s Baramati candidate Sunetra Pawar and Supriya Sule of the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) are both slated to file their nominations papers and hold rallies in Pune for the show of strength on Thursday.The Pune City Traffic police have announced traffic changes in the city. Police have said that adequate force deployment will also be made for the conduct of the rallies and crowd control.

Officials said Sule and Sunetra Pawar are both expected to file their nominations at the Council Hall around the same time with both sides expecting participation of several heavyweight political leaders. The traffic changes for Thursday were notified by DCP Traffic Rohidas Pawar on Wednesday.

Sule is slated to hold a rally between Shantai Hotel and Quarter Gate. She will be accompanied by Shirur MP and NCP (SP) candidate Amol Kolhe and Congress candidate for Pune Ravindra Dhangekar. For this rally, following traffic changes will be enforced as per requirement between 6 am till 2 pm. The road between Shantai Hotel and Quarter Gate will be closed for traffic. Alternately, vehicles from Banerjee Chowk to Quarter Gate will go via Power House Chowk. Vehicles coming from Quarter Gate will be diverted via Bachchu Adda or Sarbatwala Chowk. Vehicles coming from Shantai Chowk and going to Quarter Gate will be diverted via Banerjee Chowk or Sant Kabir Chowk.

Meanwhile, Sunetra Pawar’s rally will be held between Council Hall and Blue Nine Chowk. For this rally, traffic changes will be implemented between 6 am and 2 pm as and when required. The road between Council Hall and Blue Nine Chowk will be closed for traffic. Vehicles coming from IB Chowk will go via Council Hall Chowk and Southern Command Road or Sadhu Vaswani statue. Vehicles coming from Blue Nine Chowk to IB Chowk will be diverted via Kirad Chowk and Sadhu Vaswani Statue or via SBI House and Raina Chowk. Vehicles coming from Southern Command and going to Sadhu Vaswani Statue will be diverted as and when required via Kahun Road junction.

Officials said that since both rallies of rival candidates are expected to see participation of a large number of workers and political leaders, adequate police deployment has been made on the routes of the rallies and also at Council Hall where the nominations will be filed.
