Buford High School principal resigns midyear

By AccessWDUN staff

The principal of Buford High School has resigned in the middle of the school year for personal reasons, the school system announced Tuesday.

Lindsey Allen became principal at the school in March 2019. It was not immediately known what his next professional step would be. He is being replaced on an interim basis by Scott Chafin, the assistant principal at Buford Academy, who will serve until the end of the school year. The district will immediately begin searching for a permanent replacement.

“Mr. Allen was pivotal in the opening of our new high school last year,” Buford City Schools Superintendent Robert Downs said.  “We appreciate all that he gave to our school during a time of extensive transition. I wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Chafin was the principal at Worth County High School in Southwest Georgia before joining the Georgia Department of Education as a program manager. A news release from the Buford school district said Chafin has deep connections in the local community and a reputation for developing strong relationships with students and teachers.

“We are grateful for Mr. Chafin’s willingness to serve in this capacity for the remainder of the school year as we begin the search for a permanent high school principal,” Downs said. “His extensive administrative experience coupled with his ties to our community make him an ideal candidate for this transition.”
