PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show that Rhode Island’s population slightly increased over the past year, but that the state remains one of the slower-growing.

The bureau estimates that as of July 1, Rhode Island saw an increase of a little over 1,000 residents.

Since the 2010 census, the state population has grown by nearly 7,000 residents.

But elections expert Kimball Brace told the Providence Journal for a story Monday that the estimates point to the state losing its second congressional seat.

Brace says Rhode Island is projected to lose one of its two seats to faster-growing states.
