Fulcher endorsed by ‘Club for Growth’

Here’s a news item from the Associated Press: BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Republican U.S. House candidate Russ Fulcher has won the endorsement of the conservative national group Club for Growth. The endorsement, tweeted by the group Monday, is a boost for Fulcher as he attempts to stand out in crowded field of GOP candidates. The open 1st Congressional District seat has attracted a wide range of contenders after GOP U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador announced he would run for governor in 2018. GOP congressional hopefuls currently in the race include former Lt. Gov. and former Attorney General David Leroy; state Rep. Luke Malek, a Republican from Coeur d'Alene; Rep. Christy Perry, a Republican from Nampa, and first-time Republican political candidate Michael Snyder. The last time Club for Growth endorsed an Idaho candidate was in 2014. The group came out against U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson in Idaho's 2nd Congressional District and backed Republican Bryan Smith. Simpson then easily defeated Smith in the primary.

In 2006, the Club for Growth heavily supported one-term Idaho GOP Rep. Bill Sali; he lost two years later to a Democrat, Walt Minnick.
