Barbara Bush has penned a heartwarming essay about her fraternal twin Jenna Bush Hager, revealing that she once road her sister's back across the dance floor at a formal wedding just to 'have fun'.

The 34-year-old reflected on her lifelong relationship with her built-in 'best friend' for Vanity Fair's Sisters Issue, explaining that thanks to Jenna, she has always had a 'dinner partner, a dance partner, a partner in mischief'.

'Once, at a wedding, I rode Jenna’s back across the dance floor: I was the rodeo rider, she the horse,' she recalled. 'Immediately afterward, a thin, chic woman with short, slicked-back hair asked, “Now, why would you girls do that?”

Barbara explained that they did it to 'have fun and to laugh' to the point that they forgot how old they were.

'That’s what we’ve always done as the Bush girls. As adults, we still have slumber parties,' she added.

Barbara said that as children Jenna was 'a feisty, stout blonde with straight-cut bangs' and when they were just three years old, she boldly kicked the pre-school class bully in the shins.

The slightly older twin said she and Jenna were never bored while growing up in Texas thanks to her sister's 'expansive imagination' that was so great their mother Laura worried until she read an interview with Toni Morrison's mother that revealed the Pulitzer Prize winner had similar habits as a kid.

When they weren't creating adventures for themselves, Barbara said they loved to read together, and in seventh grade they were upset by the short story The Scarlet Ibis, which tells the story of a sickly boy who couldn't keep up with his brother.

She noted that whenever they would walk or run at two different paces the slower one would recall the story and yell out, 'Scarlet Ibis', prompting the other to hold up until they were alongside each other.

'Our mom’s DNA taught us to love to dance,' she added. 'Each night, after showers but before bed, we’d line up in the hallway, the three Bush ladies, and belt out the Pointer Sisters’ Fire, or shimmy around to Sugar, Sugar—three tone-deaf Texans, two with soaking-wet hair, who loved to dance and smile.'

Barbara went on to say that she and Jenna have an 'unspoken language' and hug each other just a 'bit too tight' like how they imagine they 'snuggled in the womb'.

The daughter of former President George W. Bush recalled that when they were visiting Manhattan as 15-year-olds, a tourist assumed they were 'two New York sisters'.

Now she said they are 'two real New York sisters' who 'howl at the moon and go on nature walks' together, adding that they have broadened their pack to include Jenna's two daughters, three-year-old Mila and eight-month-old Poppy.

Jenna was so touched by her sisters words that she took to her Instagram page on Thursday to share the post with her 209,000 followers.

'My dearest Beast wrote me a love letter,' she proudly captioned a screengrab of Barbara's essay.
